The image – understood not as a representation or project (projection) but as a relation among all the constituants of ecostystem Earth, an “eco-relation”1— was the theme of POSTIMAGE OPERAAAHHH! which took place in June 2019 at the Collegium Helveticum Zurich, a transdisciplinary research lab involving science and art. The workshop/opera brought together a philosopher specializing in Amerindian perspectivism, a composer/improviser, a dancer/performer and myself, a theorist of the image/performer. Putting together ideas, sounds and movements, we tried to catch a glimpse of this “image after the image”, more a “danse of the community” than a collective thought.2 Based on a rough scene plan the participants co-created an aleatoric series of six scenes, each focussing on a different trans-species “being-with”, including improvising with frogs (“Frog People”), playing/dancing with the sounds of a thawing lake (“Frozen Lake”), or “becoming jaguar” through deconstructed language and vocalising (“My Uncle the Jaguar”).
