SYNOPSIS
The film is the result of my performative research into trans and gender in Candomblé, carried out in Salvador between January and May 2024. It is combining excerpts from audio and video interviews I conducted with Candomblé initiates and saint mothers and fathers, as well as excerpts from my videos and live performances at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia and the Theater of the Goethe Instituto Salvador. It is a personal and performative approach to trance that revolves around mediumship, ancestry, transgenderism, the patriarchal structures of ritual and social practice in temples, the dissolution of male/female dichotomies on a spiritual level and trance as a “divinized state”, as a mutual exchange that I call “transcorporation”.
GENERAL HUMANITY
